## ChatShaala on turtleArt

HBCSE MakerSpace is inviting registration for **teachers and students** on **"Exploring turtleArt "**.

- Its short ChatShaala (conversational learning space).
- 6 sessions of 45 mins each spaced across 3 weeks.
- The sessions will be driven by participant’s interest and curiosity.
- The participants will also document their work online in the [turtleChat](https://metastudio.org/c/chat/turtlechat/35) category during the engagement.
- Those who already know about the turtleArt or Logo language can also join as mentors.

Hi

Those who couldn’t join yesterday’s session, have a look at the the below thread to get started.

I will keep posting the key concepts we cover in the session there.

> Turtle Art is a great way to explore mathematical and programming concepts in a fun and engaging way. This is inspired by LOGO. Here is an example of image formed by repeating a simple sequence of instruction. There is no one right answer. The same shape can be made by various approaches. Making a Square (“Hello world!”)

Also, once you are familiar with the interface, do share your work in the thread below.

## Here is brief summary of W1

We covered the basics of the turtleArt platform - both sugarlabs and python interface.
The summary can be found below:

> Turtle Art is a great way to explore mathematical and programming concepts in a fun and engaging way. This is inspired by LOGO. Visual programming environment ( Sugar Labs) [https://turtle.sugarlabs.org/](https://turtle.sugarlabs.org/) A square can be in a visual programming environment in multiple ways. Making a Square (“Hello world!”)

After the first session, we explored the python interface and how can one do documentation on the metastudio platform.

The participants shared the progress of making a polygon in the thread below
[https://metastudio.org/t/s1-23-june-2020-making-a-polygon-using-turtleart/4141/8](https://metastudio.org/t/s1-23-june-2020-making-a-polygon-using-turtleart/4141/8)

In the second session, we explored the sugarlab interface and how to use loops to make a shape.
We also explored some of the puzzles and the participants were encouraged to attempt the challenges at their own pace and share the progress in the thread below,

> [@turtleArt - challenges (polygons)](https://metastudio.org/t/turtleart-challenges-polygons/4163):

> [Source: turtle confusion(book), by Barry Newell] Source: turtle confusion(book), by Barry Newell The above are the collection of challenges suggested by Barry Newell in the book - Turtle Confusion. Feel free to choose any of those 40 challenges and tinker around with the code to produce something similar. Also, it will be great if you can share that in the thread below along with specifying the pattern number. During the exploration, if you discover something new, share that as a challenge…
