CUBE CHATSHAALA whiteboard
Cubists had tried to understand big terms like Genetic engineering, than Arunima also shared story of her three Cardamine plants that she brought from Munnar Kerala during field trip in February and now she has 200 above Cardamine plants which are flourishing in her Cube home Lab KOZHIKODE KERALA

How to locate gaps & misconceptions and to map them…( part of CUBE ChatShaala session, 4 Sept.2020)
Very very interesting stuff we had discussed today. We tried to understand connection of Genetic engineering with Arabidopsis and connection of Genetic engineering with Cardamine (a very simple model plant) what’s the similarity between Arabidopsis (powerful model system whose genome is sequenced and many studies have been done and many more are on the way) and Cardamine (a very simple model system, widely available accross the country, easy to maintain and very much similar to Arabidopsis) . Cardamine is easily be genetically modified by just dipping floral parts in to solution containing desired gene and we can propogate it further by seeds. Bt cotton very famous example of Genetic engineering, an insect resistant cotton plant is made in order to save crop from Bollworm (caterpillars of moth) and this was made using conventional method Plant Tissue culture technique so in today’s discussion we tried to fill gaps by putting dots.
