Summary of Discussion

ANT MODEL SYSTEM

Research question; want to study communication of ants.

Aim; to make a (Formicarium) Ant culture in home lab in order to study their communication.

So she chasing Queen ant, that will help to make a Colony’s of Ants. Queen ant is dormant in any colony.
Because she is leading other worker ant’s.

What are the identifiable features of ant?
Ant’s are coming under which Phylum, Class, Order…!? (Major discussed points)

Also connected to other model system FRUIT FLIES, MOINA, CRAB…

Ants, Fruit flies, Moina, Crab are coming under arthropods.

What are the characteristics of Arthropods !?

•Presence of Exoskeleton.
•Segmented body.
•Joined appendages.

IMG-20210509-WA0015

_ Ants & Fruit Flies are coming under Insects (Class). _

•Body are divided in 3 part Head, Thorax, Abdomen
•3 pair (6 Legs) of Legs present in their body.
•1 pair of Antenna are present in head.

_Crabs & Moina which are Coming under Crustaceans (Sub - phylum). _

•Segmented body.
•2 pair of Antenna.
•Gill’s are present
•Exoskeleton body.

Order of Fruit Flies coming under Diptera.
Examples of Diptera : Fruit Flies, House Flies, Mosquitoes.

Meaning of Diptera - 2 Wings.

Order of ants coming under Hymenoptera.
Examples of Hymenoptera ; Ants, Bees, Wasps etc…

What is the meaning of Hymenoptera!?.

Shrudhiga Mentioned about ants have 2 pairs of wings, so maybe that’s why it’s get this name…!?

But Butterfly & Dragon fly also have 2 pairs of wings. But they are coming under order Lepidoptera.

Batul & Michael also talked about what are differentiate features of Ants & Fruit flies.

•Ants have Mandible in head.
•Stringers in abdomen.
•Ant larvae depending on adult ant

Ants have 2 pair of wings, Fruit flies have 1 pair of wings.

Summary of discussion.

Do butterflies lay eggs year round?
What season do butterflies lay eggs?
Is there any special season for egg laying!!!..

Eggs can be laid from spring, summer or fall. This depends on the species of butterfly.

Psyche Butterfly Butterfly’s can see around but larvae & pupae couldn’t able to see in cardamine plant (Host plants).

What is Heteroblasty !?

Heteroblasty is *significant and abrupt change in form and function that occurs over the lifespan of certain plants. Characteristics affected include internode length and stem structure as well as leaf form, size and arrangement.

Cardamine have Knox gene, so that’s why we can able to see 2 type of leaves - Simple leaves & compound leaves.

KNOX1 genes coordinately control the leaf development and different combinations of those genes which produce diverse leaf shapes including broad, lobed and compound leaves.
