Building Contact-Less Thermometer (upto Digital Pre-Fabrication stage)

Well done! The linked documents are excellently and painstakingly composed. Any novice on the various software can feel empowered to get down and try for themselves.

However, to return to the original concept.

It is now many days since the lockdown began, and all across the country, various initiatives are being seen, supposedly as measures intended to ease the return to productive work in safety.

Implicit in these initiatives, we are seeing the widespread use of various technologies, including communication technologies.

But, step back and consider the parameters of the infection. Firstly, the spread of such infections is exponential. The only question mark is the factor. The larger it is, the faster the infections will increase. Secondly, and this was not known until large numbers in different geographies fell prey to the disease, many carriers are totally asymptomatic. This seems weighted by age, so younger people tend not to exhibit symptoms. There are published studies for both the assertions above, only, I’m not citing them here. Anybody else reading this is free to do so.

Putting these together, my conclusion is that it is of the utmost priority to ramp up preparedness to deal with the health side of the problem.

Possibly, either this group of users is not well informed about the healthcare parameters, or else lacks the requisite experience. Or, those in the group who have the expertise are overworked and cannot and therefore have not intervened as yet.

It is no secret that India’s healthcare preparedness for even the diseases that wrack the country continually is poor. The numbers of qualified personnel at every level is far too low to be meaningful. As far as the specialised care facilities for this particular disease are concerned, they are so low in numbers that containing the disease to controllable limits is not and should not be on the table.

However, the documented record shows otherwise. The number of specialised hospital beds is said to be around 100k (published numbers), whereas we are only using a fraction.

The level of testing is almost the lowest in the world. Some of the problems with that statement include the fact that the preferred test is itself shockingly weak as a diagnostic, both in terms of false positives and false negatives. If not for the widespread fear that the disease can spin out of control blindingly fast, again, based on actual numbers, few informed people would support any planning on this test. It seems better to err on the side of caution.

However, given the project here, a remote IR temperature gauge, and the fact that a series of other technologies are being deployed to track suspected infections rather than to treat anything, it has given rise to an apt expression: placebo technology. This is the choice of technologies being made to look as though something is being done, rather than to critically design to solve such problems.

Some of these solutions were initiated at a time when information was short, while the need seemed urgent. But others are being pursued even though it is clear that they aren’t intended to deal with root problems. There are only two reasons: a) failure to reassess the best expenditure of resources (including time and effort) and b) some deliberately concealed purpose.

There are many vendors in India for PCB fabrication.
No there is no manufacturer like JLCPCB as it is very cheap.
