@Theertha you might want to make a correction in the name

Its not Zejebel but Jezebel

Delias descombesi , the redspot Jezebel is a medium-sized butterfly of the family Pieridae, that is, the yellows and whites.

I found a large number of hairy caterpillars on a Pomegranate tree at Kolenchery, Kerala on 7/8/2019. There were also a few pupa.
I decided to take one home and rear it.

Don’t you think @Theertha @Abhi0703 @Susanta_Tanti, we should follow up on the butterflies and moths that use Pomegranate tree as the host plant?
In the process, we should confirm the Sapekhati observations, too.

Yes, we need to confirm by searching for references about the host plant of the Jazebel butterfly.we can also search in our surroundings too,but I don’t even find Pomegranate tree in my place.

So far, I haven’t come across any references that mention Punica granatum (Pomegranate tree) as a host plant for the red spot Jazebel butterfly. Can this a new discovery? @Abhi0703 @Arunan @Susanta_Tanti

Simultaneously, we need to confirm whether the plant on which they found the caterpillar was indeed Punica granatum, and also collect evidence such as the caterpillar feeding on its leaves. @Susanta_Tanti

Also are we sure it is Delias descombesi ( Red spot Jezebel) ? @Abhi0703 @Susanta_Tanti ?

As per ,i found butterflies, there are 10 species of Delias are reported.

[17/05, 9:43 pm] Abhijeet CUBE: The red-spot jezebel descended onto a flowering bush on the roadside, and I observed it feeding on the nectar of lantana flowers. A few minutes later, the butterfly was spotted feeding on another flower, Ageratum, called the floss flower. Both these plants are invasive plants that have spread through most of India, including forested regions. Lantana and Ageratum displace native plant species, and fauna such as the red-spot jezebel are left with no choice but to feed on their nectar.

The red-spot jezebel, like other jezebel species, lays its eggs on the parasitic plant Loranthus. In India, the red-spot jezebel has been reared on Scurrula ferruginea, a member of the Loranthaceae family.
