[9:23 PM, 8/16/2021] Ankit Yadav Xms Work Shop Cube Patkar College: This paper is regarding imaginal discs with special reference to fruit fly
Imaginal disc r sac like structure found inside larva of insects that undergo metamorphosis.
These discs decide external structures such as head, thorax, limbs and genitalia.
It is still a mystery that how these discs decides fate of an insect. The reason imaginal discs are of such interest to developmental biologist is that it provide a powerful model to study multiple aspects of biological mechanism underlying diseases.

[10:57 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila: Good!
Please post pictures and videos of these cultures. Looking forward to it.
[11:03 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila: You might be having dates of all those cultures bottles.
We’ll track each bottle one by one
For eg. If B is the bottle in which your flies died, then write a post here of the B bottle specifically with date of transfer of flies into B bottle, number of flies transferred, bottle name from which the flies where transferred (suppose A) into B bottle, then dates of when larvae, pupae were seen (if seen) in bottle B.
Similarly, write the history of bottle A as well from which the flies were transferred into B.
[11:10 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila: Okay…yes that is a problem
How many culture bottles do you have now?
Please give the names of your culture bottles one by one with date of transfer of flies of that bottle + number of flies in that bottle (females, males, gravid)
[11:16 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila: Yes
I had a doubt❓
Tell me what you think
Can we call a plant that we study a model organism? Or would it be called a model system? Drosophila, Moina, mosquito, snails can be called model organisms, but what about Phyllanthus, Cardamine? What do you think? Will there be a difference in the terms model organism and model system in this case?
[11:23 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila: Does this happen all the time? If a change in the original structure of a protein occurs, is this change always irreversible?
[11:27 PM, 8/16/2021] Lydia cUBe Drosphila:
What if you keep a potato slice just like that without spreading the fermented coconut water on it? What do you expect? Do you plan to keep a potato slice as a control?

How many larval stages do your ants have @Seethalakshmy CUBE ?
[8:07 AM, 8/17/2021] Lakshmy PJ CUBE: Heteroblasty is the condition in which plants show a certain degree of variation among individual metamers during ontogeny. In some cases, however, there are abrupt and substantial changes in form and function (e. g. in leaf form, leaf size, phyllotaxy, internode length, anthocyanin pigmentation, rooting ability, or wood structure). These plants were called “heteroblastic” by Karl Goebel more than a century ago, but the functional significance of this type of ontogenetic change, the evolutionary trajectories in different plant groups, even their frequency in the plant kingdom are still unresolved issues. We argue that slow progress is partly due to an on-going terminological
confusion and the lack of distinction between other developmental processes such as ontogenetic drift.

[10:48 AM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: So,
We actually did a year around mosquito project.
We were 8-10 students from 7-9th grade. We used to catch mosquito at our school together (before and after school hours) and at our homes by clap-trap method.
We used to collect the mosquito in a small container or box and the next day we put all that mosquitoes on a black paper. So that we can distinguish between Aedes and non-aedes ones(as aedes mosquito has white stripes on their legs)
We take the total count and and aedes mosquitoes number in that. We did this whole year with the hypothesis that we will fine more number of aedes in the late monsoon months(August to September end and initial weeks of October maybe)
Basic idea behind our hypothesis was that as after rain the mosquitoes will get more…
[10:53 AM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: I did look for pictures if there’s any in my backup or mail but I couldn’t find. I’ll try to show that if I get any reference or something.

[12:17 PM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: Actually that’s great point to look into this more clearly!
I think that if we go definition wise…
In biology ‘system’ is something like a group of things working together to make stuff happen that helps in growth, nutrition and reproduction.
‘organism’ is any living structure, can be plant or fungi or bacteria capable of growth and reproduction.
Drosophila, Moina, mosquito, snails can be called model organisms, but what about Phyllanthus, Cardamine?
I haven’t categorised then into ‘model system and organism’ So if your trying to convey that they are seperate please let me know how and why do you think that!?
Can we call a plant that we study a model organism? Or would it be called a model system?
I think we can call it both . Plants have differe…

[12:45 PM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: So why fermented coconut water is important @Aditiya Joshi CUBE .
What ingredients do yeast or bacteria or fungii need to grow?
What is the basic idea behind fermentation!?
[12:49 PM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: Yeahhh I was also thinking about it!!
It would be great!
But proper understanding and references in this field is what we require before. Lets tune in Chatshaala for discuss on it!! @Lydia cUBe Drosphila @Aditiya Joshi CUBE @Saida Sayyed
[12:52 PM, 8/17/2021] Abhijeet Singh: With a brush or something it would be easy to pick them up and transfer!!
@Batul Pipewala Kolkata
What do you think?
And also what are we studing in nematodes?
Can you give a context about it?
[1:21 PM, 8/17/2021] Aditiya Joshi CUBE: Actually, the traditional toddy is made from palm or coconut. There the juice/sap of palm/coconut flower. That is collected and fermented to give an alcoholic drink toddy.
About fermentation what I think is, the sugars like glucose will be converted to pyruvic acid. This pyruvic acid then will be converted into alcohol.
Yeasts/bacteria will require sugar or a carbon source, nitrogen source some ions like sodium, potassium, chloride, etc.
So, I think, the yeast/bacteria will utilise these nutrients and result in formation of alcohol.
I will try to observe the growth of these yeast/bacteria on a boiled potato slice.
