Biological Rhythm Studies in Fruit Flies

a glass cage that opens from the top only and we can manually close it when we find enough fruit fly …we have to put some waste material inside the glass cage so that fruit fly could smell the waste and we could easily trap it …

We have to capture the fruit fly

How long can the fruit flies survive without oxygen?

How can fruit fly survive without oxygen? Why is oxygen needed to fruit fly?

Fruit flies are attracted to the scent of apple cider vinegar - earning them the common nickname ’ vinegar flies’ - and can’t resist flying into the jar. Once they’re in, they can’t get out. You’ll need a mason jar, 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar , dish soap, a funnel, and optionally, a piece of overripe fruit .

For trapping the fruit flies we need.
A bottle and a rotten fruit piece
We will put the fruit piece inside the bottle and keep the bottle near a dustbin
The fruit flies will come inside the bottle to eat the rotten fruit
After 30/40 mins we will go near the bottle and observe some fruit flies and put a cotton plug over it

We can capture them by a sticky net by putting a fruit on it

They can live without O2 for many hours
But humans cant

Great plan of trapping fruit flies.

Please tell us your objective? What can we study by trapping fruit flies?

They are also very good at surviving without oxygen. If humans don’t receive oxygen, they can die within a few minutes, but almost all insects can survive without oxygen for many hours.
Humans need oxygen for breakdown of food into energy that is needed for various life processes inside our body.
Water fleas, as we lerant yesterday, turned red when less oxygen was supplied to them.

Whwere do fruit flies come from ?

Fruit fly don’t have a central area such as our lungs where they gather oxygen nor a transport system such as our heart and the blood it uses to deliver oxygen to all of our cells. Nope, flies , like all insects, breathe through many tiny openings called spiracles. Therefore, they can hold their breath
