Botanical Bliss: My visit to Malabar Botanical Garden and Institute for Plant Sciences ☘️

A treasure trove of fascinating plant species! The garden is home to many many varieties. It’s an ideal spot for students, researchers and anyone interested in green and conservation! Here are some interesting finds :shamrock:

A huge collection of pteridophytes

Flowers of Nagalinga Tree (Cannonball tree/sal Tree). Couroupita sp. Fruits are woody. Flowers are seen on long branch-like structures. There were many bees around the flower. Flowers had a very strong smell. Photo taken at 10am, Malabar Botanical Garden, Kozhikode @⁨Sneha Maurya⁩ @⁨Vijaya Ma’am Tilak Cube⁩

And this was another interesting plant I observed in the garden. It is growing on another tree. It is an epiphyte. Its striking feature is, leaves have dark pink tips. Hence it is commonly called a “painted fingernail plant”!!! I’m seeing this plant for the first time:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:
I checked in Google, found the id as: Neoregelia spectabilis. I think this pink colour at the tip would attract the pollinators! And also on plants growing in some shady areas, the colour is not this intense. So more sunlight----> more pink

Beautiful and bright flowers of Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana), a species native to tropical Africa. It is named “sausage” tree because of its large, woody sausage shaped fruits! Photo taken at 10am, Malabar Botanical Garden, Kozhikode

There is a beautiful butterfly garden there. Very well maintained!

Google says this is a crotalaria species. I have seen so many butterflies hovering around these flowers. Some were feeding. Photo taken at 12pm
