I came across many cat videos on youtube wherein I observed the cats sitting on books and not just any book, rather the ones which the owner is using. I searched up some articles regarding the same and here is an experiment conducted by one of the cat owners to see if the cat prefers to sit on a dummy book which she wasn’t reading.
On the basis of the experiment above I could think of these possible explanations-
1)Cats are very territorial animals hence they try to mark their territory by leaving their scent on their owner’s book.
2)Like many creatures, cats are largely guided by their sense of smell and the book which is recently used by the owner has their scent thus they like to be near it because it may makes them feel safe and happy.
3)They are trying to get their owner’s attention by sitting on the object which has their focus.
