The main model organism discussed was the fruit fly, scientifically known as Drosophila melanogaster which is one of the most important organisms in genetics.
The fruit fly has played a major role in scientific discoveries and has contributed to several Nobel Prize–winning studies. A pioneering scientist in this field Thomas Hunt Morgan, who
demonstrated that genes are located on chromosomes using fruit flies.
Three Body Divisions of the Fruit Fly

The body of the fruit fly is divided into three main divisions arranged in a straight sequence along the body:
Head → Thorax → Abdomen
1. Head (H) — Located at the Anterior End
Position:
The Head is present at the anterior end of the fruit fly body.
It is the first body division along the anterior side.
Main Structures
Present in the Head:
1-Compound eyes — help in vision
2-Antennae— help in sensing smell and surroundings
3-Mouthparts— help in feeding
Brain — controls body activities
2. Thorax (TH) — Located Between Head and Abdomen
Position:
The Thorax is located posterior to the Head and anterior to the Abdomen.
It is the middle body division.
Main Structures Present in the Thorax:
1-Three pairs of legs (total 6 legs)
2-One pair of wings
3-Strong flight muscles
3. Abdomen (A) — Located at the Posterior End
Position:
The Abdomen is present posterior to the Thorax.
It forms the posterior-most body division.
Main Structures Present in the Abdomen:
1- Digestive organs
2- Reproductive organs
3- Segmented body regions

Common Misconception
Misconception: Wings may arise from the Abdomen.
Correct Idea: Wings arise only from the Thorax, never from the Abdomen.
