This 8-hour in-person hackathon is designed for school teachers, educators, tinkering/STEM lab mentors, and students to explore innovative solutions, collaborate, and engage in hands-on learning.

Date of Hackathon: Feb 27, 2025
Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Target Audience: Teachers/Educators/ATL mentors and students of all levels (Primary, Secondary, and Higher Education)
Individual or Group Participation: Participants can join individually or in groups of up to 5 members. Teams can collaborate on a common task or activity or choose different aspects of teaching innovation.
Eligibility: Open to science educators/teachers and students from all fields (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science, etc.). No prior technical expertise is required, but a passion for innovative teaching is essential!
Key highlights:
Basic Tinkering Materials—Teams will be given basic lab equipment and materials (e.g., MDF sheets, basic hardware tools, basic stationery, electronics components, etc.).
Technology Access—Tools like online simulations, access to educational software, and virtual tools (if required).
Mentorship Support—Experienced teachers and education professionals will be available for advice and guidance throughout the hackathon.
Workshops—short sessions on incorporating technology in classrooms, gamification in education, and best teaching practices.
Lesson Plan Template—A structured template to guide the creation of lesson plans for Educators/ATL mentors
A hackathon is an event where community members come together to learn new skills, build innovative projects, and share ideas. It’s a great opportunity for collaboration, creativity, and skill development.
Event Flow:
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM | Registration & Orientation
Participants check in, receive materials, and get an overview of the hackathon structure.
10:00 AM – 11:00 AM | Ideation Stage
Teams brainstorm real-world challenges and formulate a structured approach to solving them.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Expert Session: Gamification in STEM Education
An expert will discuss how gamification enhances classroom learning and its impact on STEM pedagogy.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM | Material Collection & Setup
Teams gather the necessary tools and materials for their prototypes.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM | Tinkering & Prototyping
Hands-on session where teams build functional prototypes using the resources provided.
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Presentations & Demonstrations
Teams showcase their prototypes, explain their design thinking process, and receive feedback from peers and experts.
Note: Food and snacks will be served during the event (no separate refreshment breaks).
