These are wallpapers created from the copperplate etchings in the book Hortus Indicus Malabaricus. The wallpapers below were created by tracing bitmaps of the scanned images using Inkscape. The SVG colour palette was used for the enhanced effects of the background/foreground contrast.

It’s not clear what has been done here. Are the life like parts photo images of real leaves, or are they in fact real leaves to which line drawing has been added on the paper?

It would be great if Amit has the time to continue this art project with the content from the earliest published work on Indian flora: Colóquios dos simples e drogas he cousas medicinais da Índia (“Conversations on the simples, drugs and medicinal substances of India”) by the colourful Portuguese polymath Garcia de Orta, in 1563 CE.
