Cubists are trying to isolate the soil nematode C. elegans from Indian soil.
Methods:
1)Take 2 potato slices.
2)Add soil collected to the periphery of one potato slice (Test) and leave the other without soil (Control).
3)Add 2 drops of milk at the center of both slices to visualize the nematodes that come out of the soil toward the milk.
4)Replicates of the same experiment can also be performed to confirm the results.
Why C.elegans is a good model system?
This soil nematode offered great potential for genetic analysis, partly because of its rapid (3-day) life cycle, small size (1.5-mm-long adult), and ease of laboratory cultivation.
