Local Biodiversity Mapping

To study local insects using Pitfall traps

  • Pitfall traps can be made using a plastic cup and burying it neck deep into different locations i.e where one may find small insects.

  • Fill the cup with water mixed with soap\liquid detergent anything that will create bubbles, more than half.

The aim is to capture unsuspecting insects which will fall in the cup and the bubbles will break the surface tension so the insects drown rather than floating on the surface.

Hi @Diksha Can you please share more details about the project so that others can also do it in their regions and we can start another citizen science project mapping local biodiversity!

Yes di, I will update the steps from time to time as I go through the process myself.
I am happy to help if someone wants to do this on their own locality!
