The bottle is transparent there is this condensed stuff on the sides of bottle which makes it look hazy.
Is this kind of condensed stuff on the sides of bottle common or is it just in mine?
This is how the water surface looks like. There is thick layer of something on top of it. I think it might be the oils and fats from the milk.
Is it common or is it just in mine?
It’s common…all you need to do is clean the water so that your moinas in your cultures could live more there…take a dropper and just remove out debris present in the water or either u can even change the water removing the moinas in a muslin cloth.
Exactly I said this will help you in mantaining moina cultures for longer time, I didn’t told they will become free from rotifers, but yes if thought logically we can do it…
As we know the rotifers size is less as compared to moinas, so if we take an appropriate size sieve or muslin cloth in which moinas can be easily hold above and the rotifers including all the water will be separated out … What say about this ? @drishtantmkawale@Spandan_b@pratittodkar
No…I haven’t done this but I had seen this been done few months back by some moina people…well , they don’t get harmed as they are transferred soon back to New DC water.
How long can then Moina survive outside water? Do you have any estimate about what might be the delay between collecting Moina and then putting them back in the water?
But as @Spandan_b said he wants to keep the culture free from rotifers… he needs to keep a track of the clump formation right? Less clumps less rotifers… easier the job of removing/avoiding the clumps by checking their formation day to day.
No , idont know the time how much they can survive without water , but we can check by keeping a moina out side the water and can see after every 10minutes or so…
Well it happens approximately within 5 minutes. And not a single moina dies as much we have noticed.
Let’s ask him only …what’s your idea behind removing rotifers ? @Spandan_b
If we put a logic then we can say indirectly that as rotifers are increasing in number there would be obviously less amount of bacteria for moina as rotifers eat bacteria. So can even excess number of rotifers too can cause hypoxy condition?
Oh Come on… rotifers do not harm moinas unless they are more in number i.e. as @Sjuday2527 they will eat up all the bacteria and there would be less food for the moinas, that’s why you see, excess of bacteria, rotifers too can harm moinas.
