Cube chatshaala (20th september 2020)

Arunima from Cube home lab Kozhikode Kerala

Shared that she found one Larva and one pupa on Cardamine plant and then she took them and put them in to glass bowl with Some other Cardamine plants.

And today at 4 pm in the evening beautiful white colour Butterfly (with black dots on upper side and green wavy lines on bottom side of wing) Psyche Butterfly emerged out from Pupa…

But we need to give some food to newly hatched Butterfly…
And Butterflies are very choosy they have spacific egg laying host and nectar plant host…

There was an emergency that we had to tackle…

  1. We could give some alternative to nectar( someone suggested we can give Water and Sugar solution)
  2. We had to find nectar plant.

How do we search for nectar plant for Psyche Butterfly???..

Why are we interested in Cardamine plant??..IMG_20200920_220523
Genetic Engineering and Cardamine

Bollworm(caterpillar of moth) is eating cotton plant leaves, How to save cotton plant from bollworm , Bacillus thuringiensis is soil bacteria which can kill Bollworm so why not identify and isolate gene from bacteria which kills Bollworms and put the gene in to cotton plant…

Modify cotton plant in to Bt-cotton by introducing a gene from bacteria in to the cotton plant

How do we incorporate a gene from bacteria to cotton plant??..
How do we identify that our gene of interest has been incorporated in plant??..

**What’s the role of Marker, which marker are we using and how would be use that marker for screening… **
