23rd January 2021
Summary of yesterday’s cube chatshaala discussion…

Phyllanthus one of the plant model system which is widely available across the Country and Many cubists from different parts of India are maintaining Phyllanthus and choose this model system to study Sleep wake cycle/Circadian rhythm/ molecule biology of Circadian rhythm…

Lakshmi and Theertha have taken a great initiative and have been observing the sleep pattern of Phyllanthus plant observing the change in Angle(leaf and branchlet) at different time of intervals.

Leaf Angle TITRATION
This concept came from the Acid-base TITRATION. Similarly Cubists are trying to find out the point which states END POINT OF WAKEFULNESS AND STARTING POINT OF SLEEP

Many questions were asked during the discussion

  1. What’s the Phyllanthus plant?.
  2. Why Phyllanthus plant is choosen?.
  3. Are there any other plants also who shows the folding and unfolding of leaves?
  4. Why Phyllanthus plant is choosen over other plants like Tamarind, Gooseberry, Cesalpinia etc.
  5. How do identify Phyllanthus plant?.
  6. Where one should look for Phyllanthus in the locality?.

What’s the objective behind Finding Angle of TITRATION?.

Than we did comparison as Teertha from Kozhikode Kerala found that the Angle was 0’ at 5.40 pm yesterday…

Whereas Lakshmi from Thrissur kerala found the Angle was 27’ at 6.30 pm…

Are both the plants are of same species???.

Phyllanthus plant from Kozhikode kerala shows 0 Degree angle at 5.40 pm (Date: 22nd January 21)

How to identify different species of Phyllanthus?..

Theertha has been looking for diagnostic feature of Phyllanthus urinaria
And meanwhile when cubist from Kozhikode Kerala said the no. Of Tepals is 6 . Many CUBists were there who are not from botany and Biology background than discussion went on how tepal is different from sepals and petals and what are the parts of flower by taking example of Hibiscus flower…

What’s the objective of studying Sleep wake cycle of Phyllanthus plant?.

Are there any factors which regulates the Circadian rhythm and if yes than how do we varify it?.

Which point should be consider as Sleeping point or should be take Range and try to compare it with Human being sleep as there are phases of sleep?. How do we define it?.

Nail Regeneration workshop
We had discussed why we are behind Nail growth?.What are the questions we can address from the model system Nail growth and Nail Regeneration?.

We had also discussed on how to collate data at one place that’s a google doc is made where all the data would be added manually as we do with Mango-Mapping data…

Are home labs possible!!! Can Nail growth can be study at home by using components available at home?.
What could be an alternative to Voting ink Marks? Can be use Nail polish or Henna(Mehandi) or permanent Marker?.

What could be the best alternative to Voting ink Mark?
