We had a great discussion about
Collaborators from different parts of county actively involved the study.
For that they used mustard seed and mung bean ( green gram) seed. One set up with moist tissue paper with seeds other one which seeds are soaked in water.
People reported different observations
After 22 hrs
- Theertha (Kozhikode )
A -( wet tissue ) - 35% of germination
B( soaked in water)- 30%
Anjali - Trivandrum
A- 0%
B- 1%
Sneha maurya - mumbai
A-25%
B- 17.5%
These all are used mustard seeds.
Where chitra maโam( Delhi) used mung seeds
A-95%
B- 100%.
1). Why the mustard seed shows Slow germination compared to green gram?
2). Difference between mustard seeds and Green gram seeds, these are enriched by what?
3). Importance of significant difference?
4). What the basic requirements needs to germination of seeds?
5). Why the rate of germination slow in seeds are soaked in water?
6). What are the factors effecting seed germination?
Etc
In the process of seed germination, water is absorbed by the embryo, which results in the rehydration and expansion of the cells. Shortly after the beginning of water uptake, or imbibition, the rate of respiration increases, and various metabolic processes, suspended or much reduced during dormancy, resume. These events are associated with structural changes in the organelles (membranous bodies concerned with metabolism), in the cells of the embryo.
