On 7th June ChatShaala, @Sailekshmi shared how she conducted Food Preference Test in Fruitflies at her Homelab. I got excited when she said that she kept the bait at 10 pm, that is at the night time!!
Then there came a question- What if we keep a freshcut tomato slice at night time? Will the fruitflies come? And after how many hours can we expect fruitflies??? If we ever spot flies at midnight, can they be sleep mutants!!? So many questions to be answered! So getting inspired from the ChatShaala discussion, I set up a bait at 10 PM the same night, June 7. I arranged a slice of freshly cut tomato on a white plate and kept in on my kitchen slab.
I was so much excited!!! Will any flies visit my tomato slice at night time?
Observations recorded during the night and early morning. No flies were observed on the set up.
