Renowned Science Communicator and Padma Shri awardee, Shri Arvind Gupta visited Kalpakghar to celebrate Children’s Day with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) school students.

@Kalpakghar is a collaborative STEM-tinkering project set up by IISER Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park with funding from Tata Technologies Ltd. Dr. Arvind Gupta introduced students to the joy of learning science through activity-based methods. He also emphasised the importance of science museums that connect children to their local surroundings, offering hands-on experiences that fuel curiosity and can lead to discovery.

Joining him in-person at the Science Park was Dr. Vidula Mhaiskar from Garware Balbhavan, Pune, who demonstrated a variety of hands-on science activities and eco-friendly toys made from sustainable materials such as newspaper, matchboxes, and used plastic bottles. Her session encouraged students to explore creative learning by making their own toys, transforming common objects into meaningful educational tools.

The event also had the presence of Shri. Praveen Tupe, Founder Director Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park, Shri. Nand Kumar Kasar, CEO Pimpri Chinchwad Science Park, Shri Ashok Rupner, Senior Technical Officer, Science Activity Centre of IISER Pune

After the demonstrations, children actively participated in a “Make and Take” session, where they received raw materials and guidance to create their own toys based on the day’s activities. This interactive approach allowed students to apply what they learned in their classrooms.
