The introduction of these transgenic plants into agricultural practice will cause the kanamycin resistance gene and the gene product to be present on a large scale. The mechanism of action of streptomycin is inhibition of protein synthesis of mycobacteria in the ribosome. Resistance emerges when mutations appear in genes encoding 16S rRNA and protein S12.
Tetracycline antibiotics are protein synthesis inhibitors.[22] They inhibit the initiation of translation in variety of ways by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, which is made up of 16S rRNA and 21 proteins. They inhibit the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the mRNA translation complex. Some studies have shown that tetracyclines may bind to both 16S and 23S rRNAs.

It is in the penicillin class of medications. Ampicillin was developed to overcome the issue of drug resistance and extend the antimicrobial coverage of penicillins. It is also resistant to acid so it can be administered orally.

Experimental setup :
TITLE : Which seed germinate first Cardamine or mustard?
• 4 cap of plastic bottle with 5 layer of tissue paper. In 2 caps 5 mustard seeds and other 2 caps with 5 Cardamine seeds each.
• Watering at 8am, 2 teaspoon water in each cap daily.
My Expectation : Cardamine and mustard seeds will germinate in 4 days ( reason: since moong beans germinates within 3 days)
Dhanraj’s Expectation : Cardamine and mustard seeds will germinate in 6 days.

Discussion started with @Smiti who is having Cardamine plant with her in her Homelab, Bandra, Mumbai and collected around 393 seeds out of it. The size of Cardamine is around 1 mm and it’s yellow to brown in colour.
Now. Plan is to study the effect of Kanamycin(antibiotic) on Cardamine plant.
• What is the source of Kanamycin antibiotic?

• What is meant by seed germination ?
• When we sow a seed, which part comes out first from the seed? And why?
Radicle comes first in almost all plants. Radical is the future root, which provide anchorage to the seedling and also absorbs nutrients from the soil which helps in the growth of the seedling.

• What is the effect of any Penicillin or Kanamycin of bacterial cell? Do they kill the bacterial cell or retards the growth of bacteria ?
• How Kanamycin will affect the Cardamine?
Kanamycin affect the 70s ribosome and particularly 30s subunit which ultimately affect or stops the protein synthesis present in Mitochondria and Chloroplast of Cardamine cell.
• How Penicillin kills the bacteria?
The Penicillin inhibits the cell wall synthesis by acting on some enzyme.

I will collect the seeds after it gets matured.
